Just to share a small tip 'n' trick with you all... :o)
My camera has optional gridlines which you can set to overlay the LCD screen when you're shooting. I've started using these and have found it incredibly useful when lining up shots and keeping them straight.
It's particularly handy if I'm in a position where I'm looking at the LCD from an awkward angle. It's difficult to judge whether things are nice and straight but having a gridline can help. I've found I've needed to do less cropping and straightening since I've applied this technique.
I've also noticed that friends who take pictures of me who are notorious at giving WAY too much headroom at the top of the picture seem to subconsciously line up the subject much better when the gridlines are there now. :o)
So if you're camera has gridlines available have a go at using them.
great tip! i don't see why this shouldnt be used. i agree that it helps so much with the composition, especially when doing the 3/4 rule. is it 3/4 or 1/4? i forgot but yeah you know what i mean. thanks matt!
Good tip, I have found myself using the Rule of Thirds more consciously since doing 365 but now I want to check my cameras to see if I have the grid too. It would really help when in and akward position or handing my camera to another.
