As I've discovered, if I edit a photo in either my version of Photoshop 5.5, or Paint Shop Pro 7, I lose all the Exif information on saving it. This is linked to the Save function - even if the photo needs no retouching, just resizing it for upload and saving (not even with "save for web") will lose the Exif info. I can't find any options in either program that will let me save associated data.
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting round this? Buying new software is not currently an option.
You're not the only one facing this issue. I'm using Paint Shop Pro 6 (it's 12 years old) and it does the same thing. None of my photos has any Exif info.
And I don't know if this other issue is linked to the software as well, but I cannot even view the larger version of my own photos after I upload. Although this happens sometimes when I try viewing other people's larger versions too, most of the time I can see (other people's photographs) well enough. Just not my own.
@myautofocuslife I didn't know you used PSP!?! I have used that program since Fletcher was born and my sister introduced me to it- 9 years ago. If you ever think of upgrading PSP X4 Ultimate it has Nik® Color Efex Pro filters that are really fun to play with. Here's the link to the program and it's only $59.99 a year ago I paid $99 :( http://www.corel.com/corel/product/index.jsp?pid=prod4220093
@heidievans73 Thank you for the link, Heidi! They've certainly slashed the price. Is it because a new version will be released soon, I wonder? I'm happy with the version I have even though it's such an old one but I will consider upgrading. 8)
@heidievans73 Thank you for this link - the web page says it's £80 on this side of the Atlantic, which is actually $126, so somewhat less of a bargain! Interesting that the prices should be so different. I'll have a think as Photoshop Elements is about the same price.
@myautofocuslife@carmel I have Corel Paintshop x4 and have very few problems and it is about $75 here. As @emmasroobers and I discovered you may have to go through the onsite upload and it should be okay.
the Jasc Paint Shop really is a bit bulky compared to the Corel when you are ready to move up but you will have very little need for a learning curve.
I know in order to save the exif info on Photoshop (my version anyway) instead of clicking the one that says "Save for Web" I click on "Save As"and then go to the drop down menu where you can change the type of file, and change it from the Photoshop setting, to the JPEG setting. It saves the exif info onto the image.
Hopefully that can work for your programs as well.
@snijhuis Thanks, Steph. This is what I've been doing - I never use "Save for web" - but it just doesn't seem to work for me, any attempt at saving the file always loses the exif info. I'm not sure why.
I always use "Save for web" simply because it gives me the best quality/size option for images that are to be used in email or on the web. I don't really need to preserve EXIF info in editied photos because I have that info in my originals (which I now take backups of ;-) I rename my edits so that they are easy to track back to the original.
