Help with taking pictures of landscape lights

August 30th, 2010
A friend owns a landscape lighting company and asked me to take pictures for her website of the houses lit up at night. Are there any particular tricks I could take to make the pictures better? Thanks!!!

Inside or out? If you're outside, use a tripod to stop it blurring.

tripod and a long shutter speed. the shutter speed will depend on the time of the evening. the darker it is the longer the shutter speed. try starting at iso 200, f/16, 15 seconds and adjust from there. Oh and start shooting about 15 minutes after the sun lowers past the horizon.

Use a narrow aperture (f16-f32) on a longer exposure to get brilliant starbursts on any light in the shot!!

Thanks gang! Hopefully I'll get some great shots! I've never tried to shoot like this at night before!
