Just grab a teleconverter. They're fairly cheap (especially compared with a lens) and usually come in roughly 1.4x and 2x versions. They go between your lens and camera, and increase your focal length by the factor indicated. So with a 2x teleconverter, a 100mm lens becomes a 200m lens (albeit you lose a stop, so if your max aperture is f/5.6 your lens becomes f/8 equivalent).

Agree, teleconverters are a cheap solution, but not all lenses work with them tho..

You have to be aware when using a teleconverter that your aperture will be off by the multilplier of the teleconverter. And in the bad direction.
Is there a camera shop nearby that rents lenses? Maybe you could rent a lens during those outings.
