Ladies, Wedding Shoot Wardrobe Tips?

February 1st, 2013
Shooting my first wedding in April. I'm a guest but will be doing a lot of work that day. I'm anticipating a lot of movement, ups and downs (physically), standing. There will be a dinner plate for me but really, how long will I have a chance to sit?

So, I'm starting to contemplate what I could wear that will be presentable as a guest but functional and comfortable as a photographer. I'm not a skinny mini so fit is also on my mind. I'm also thinking about best shoes, accessories (including a bag that can be strapped on in some way to hold personal belongings, lenses, photog accessories, etc).

What are your tried and true favorites for any of the above?

And for your "camera bag" what are my must haves that I can't go without. I imagine I'll need extra memory cards and an extra battery. Extra tripod?

I love tips and tricks...

-Dress shirt and comfortable dress pants
-bag for your photo equipment, extra batteries for flash, & camera
-extra CF cards or compact flash cards
-tripod
-reflector
leave in your car...2 lights with stands & soft boxes, just in case it's rainy

Flat shoes are a must
Pants...not a skirt...and pockets, pockets, pockets
Don't carry a handbag...you'll have your hands full enough with you gear
Extra batteries and then extra batteries

Flat shoes are a must and a top that is comfortable for you to wave your arms around in - but that doesn't gape at the front when you lean forward...thankfully I had done some practice shots the morning if my mates wedding in the summer and realised my top although not revelaing when I was stood normally gave everyone a good eyeful when I went into crouched positiion! Just in case take Tit-tape with you!!

I would say even though you are a guest - you need to feel FULLY comfrtable in what you are wearing - if you feel self conscious in any way, your shots will definitely pick this up as you won't feel inclined to get into positions that are the best!

WOuld wear trousers for sure and make sure you have a camera bag that is big enough to "throw" your stuff into...you wont have time to be neatly alighning your kit when you change lenses etc!

Lots of blank memory cards, lots of spare batteries, if you can gt hold of a spare body similar to yours it stops you fretting something might go wrong with your camera, (and also meakes swapping lenses problem go away

Have fun - In a sadistic kind of way I like shooting weddings...
