Advanced Portrait Lighting

September 15th, 2013
Well its been some time since I posted a tip or trick so I thought why not start with a complex one right????

Here is a photo I took today at a fashion shoot I was doing.

If you look you will see that the model is standing in a spot light, this in fact was a large soft box of 100cm x 100 cm and was locate camera right about 2 meters at her 45 degrees.

The rim light that is down her camera left side was created using a strip light that was put up high and angled so it would not only give her some hair light but put a rim of light all the way down her side of her body.

The main reason for doing this is to give her separation away from the dark background.

If I didn't do this the edge of her body would of merged into the trees and the image would of lacked a distinct subject.

We were standing in complete shade so as to give me not only full control over the light but also it would remove any speckles of like that might hit her skin and take away from my lighting.

Feel freed to if you want to ask some more questions pop over the the image itself and leave the questions there, that way if people come across the image all the questions and answers are in one spot. :)

Until next time happy snapping.

Beautiful photo. Do you use a light meter? If so, can you share the f/ values of the light?
