RAW vs jpeg

Forgive me as I am sure this question has been asked before. Why would one want to shoot in RAW format vs jpeg or vise versa?

In RAW you are able to "fix" or edit your photos a lot better in photoshop. I am talking photos that are taken really crappy! You can actually somewhat fix them! But RAW does take up huge amounts of your camera card! I personally don't use it, but I can see why people do. I just shoot the highest quality jpeg and it works great for me!
