Canon Rebel XSi (450D) and Err 99

April 26th, 2010
I'm going crazy here! I was photographing a party yesterday and my camera went dead.

First, in a few of the shots a black strip (probably the shutter), kept appearing in the images... Then the Err 99 message kept displaying, not letting me shoot anything.

And it's been like this since yesterday... Anyone knows what could be the problem?

So frustrating!

I've heard about this with the XSi (that's what i shoot with) but i don't know what it means or what to do about it. I'm afraid of getting it.

how long have you had the camera?

I've had the camera for 1 year and 4 months...

I have an original Rebel that had this once and I remember doing this to fix it.

Good Luck!

Thanks! I was reading and I think my camera has a problem with the shutter or the mirror... I hope it is not too expensive to repair...

I've gotten an Err 99 only once before. I took the lens off, put it back on, and it was fine.

I think Err 99 is a message for everything they cannot explain... I was not able to fix the problem with the tutorial, so I'll have to take the camera to be repaired.

Hi! I'm not a member of 365 project anymore, so I'm replying through Dora's account. The shutter of my camera was jammed, and that's why I was receiving the Err 99 message. I had to take my camera to repair and it wasn't cheap, because they have to change the shutter. But I read that the Err 99 message can be for a lot of inespecific problems. Wish I could help you more! Polianasdh
