As it was probably our last opportunity for a while, Bryce and I decided to have the weekend away and on Thursday night drove to Taupo. On Friday we visited the Huka Falls. The following is information I got from the net, which may interest those who aren't familiar with these falls... They are certainly very dramatic and amazing to see. This photo is just a very small part of the falls looking from the bridge down.
At the Huka Falls, the Waikato River which is normally 100m wide, is forced through a 20 metre wide gorge and over a dramatic 20m drop.
Every second up to 220,000 litres of water gushes through the gorge and shoots out over 8 metres beyond to create a beautful blue/green pool.
The name Huka is the Maori word for 'foam', which is appropriate as the falling water and rapids certainly resembles foam, especially under flooding conditions.
I love seeing the Huka Falls but always see it towards the end of the summer so probably at its tamest but still beautiful…the colour is gorgeous always. I met you in Taupo! 🥰
