The ruru (morepork) again

This is another photo I took of the poor baby Ruru that died after flying into my son's window.
I was fascinated with the detail of the claws. It was so beautiful. DOC (Department of Conservation) were very happy to take it from us - for research. They also give the feathers to artists for cultural artwork.
Wow, that is some claw. Can't tell how large the bird is, but from the size of the claw, seems like it would have just broken the window. To bad that it didn't make it.

Oh how sad, I have never actually seen one outside a zoo or bird sanctuary. We hear them. The detail on his claw and feet are amazing.

So sad, but wonderful that so much good came from the loss. Great detail.

@kali66 I didn't take the bird to them, but the person who did for me said they are very grateful and not many people know that they would be happy to take them. I didn't know previously either.

I have only seen glimpses of them out in the wild, but mostly just heard their call. Those claws are something else....

@christinav I was thrilled a couple of years ago to actually see one in my garden - that was my first sighting ever! And I was lucky enough to have my camera on me 😁. Apart from that one - this one is the only one I have seen. Heard them often too of course.
