Between 1647 and 1652 Bernini sculpted this statue, depicting the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, so described in the memories of the Saint: "I saw in his hand a long spear of gold, and at the iron's point there seemed to be a little fire. He appeared to me to be thrusting it at times into my heart, and to pierce my very entrails; when he drew it out, he seemed to draw them out also, and to leave me all on fire with a great love of God. The pain was so great, that it made me moan; and yet so surpassing was the sweetness of this excessive pain, that I could not wish to be rid of it." Passionate, isn't it?
As one of my Egyptian friends say, life is like the ocean - sometimes the waves are big and rugged and sometimes it is calmer. This last period I was caught up by a thing that I thought I had finished last year ... add to that a huge workload :-)
@runner365 oh yes, I know exactly how it is! I had one of the worst Octobers in my life! I understand you very well... nice to see your pictures again!
@joysabin@pickerandagrinner it is one of the most werful pieces of art (actually, I would say erotic art...) I've ever seen. And the fun is that you don't even need to buy a ticket, as its in a church!
