311 Passion

Between 1647 and 1652 Bernini sculpted this statue, depicting the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, so described in the memories of the Saint: "I saw in his hand a long spear of gold, and at the iron's point there seemed to be a little fire. He appeared to me to be thrusting it at times into my heart, and to pierce my very entrails; when he drew it out, he seemed to draw them out also, and to leave me all on fire with a great love of God. The pain was so great, that it made me moan; and yet so surpassing was the sweetness of this excessive pain, that I could not wish to be rid of it." Passionate, isn't it?
Bernini is amazing, the lighting of this shoot do him Justice. Beautiful!

As one of my Egyptian friends say, life is like the ocean - sometimes the waves are big and rugged and sometimes it is calmer. This last period I was caught up by a thing that I thought I had finished last year ... add to that a huge workload :-)

@joysabin @pickerandagrinner it is one of the most werful pieces of art (actually, I would say erotic art...) I've ever seen. And the fun is that you don't even need to buy a ticket, as its in a church!

I spotted the erotic appeal straightaway but I didn't like to mention it! Incredible sculpture.

@vignouse True, we are talking about a saint... though, the words she wrote herself are incredibly explicit!
