@s4sayer Thank you very much, I am not good enough at French to know, sadly: the only translation I find is "noia", the equivalent of "boredom".

Yes, you're right, ennui, is boredom, yet the word has many nuances, How could I forget our French teacher talking about ennui for a whole lesson? Start with boredom...and then consider some of these: world weariness, tedium, grief, worry, bother, troubles. You might find this phrase apposite: c'est à mourir d'ennui, it's enough to bore you stiff / to tears /to death. Have fun ;-)

@kerosene Yes, luckily (for me...) it was not so long a trip (you know, she was out for studying English and German much longer in the last years, but always in kind of a "protected" environment, this was her first experience as a "lone" traveller... and I missed her so hard exactly because I know she is going to fly her own wings really soon...)
