In chains

In the Biblioteca Malatestiana the books ("Codes") are chained to the "plutei", the wooden desks where the copyists would sit and perform their amazing work. The chains are unique to this place and are there from 1454...
Hope they were for the book only. Love the DOF! Fav!

Intriguing shot, looks rather threatening. Great piece of history though.

@joysabin hahaha, yes, sure! The chains were bound within the book cover, not to prevent theft, but to maintain order: the bibliotheque is one of the first with a classification (and position) of the codes for subject matter.
@golftragic Oh well, threaten was not meant: the chains are actually very thin and an amazing piece of workmanship! Thank you!
@blueace Thank you, Annie!

@pistache Yes, thanks! The natural lighting of the salon is amazing. Perfectly neutral, I didn't need any adjustment to the white balance. Engineered for artists!
