None would be allowed to launch one in the living room. Back then, there still were such rooms as the elegant parlor. Not necessary elegant, of course, but the place where the exhibition of all mum’s fragile trinkets was permanently on show...
My grandmother has such a room, we didn't really adhere to such the roped off room philosophy. I really like the term from @leonbuys83 - paper-plane perspective.
@ludwigsdiana Thank you very much! Credits to Mrs. D., mostly! @leonbuys83 Thanks a lot, Leon, love your definition! @joysabin Neither did I, actually... But I took my responsibilities... Agreed on Leon’s definition (and thank you!) @taffy It was such a curious way... I always wondered, after all we didn’t live in a castle! @s4sayer do you? Thanks, I made it, quite a lot of years ago! @jgpittenger Why not? I’ve always let my daughter go, even when she was a baby. Warning her, of course, but even if something got broken... living our home has always been more important to me!
OMG! More tile work. So amazing. When our three boys were growing up, there were 10 boys in four houses in a row. We had so many baseball games in our back yard, the base line were forever in the grass. I told my husband, we're raising boys, not grass. I miss those days.
@featherstone26 yes,I love these floors! These were laid directly on the base, pouring the colored mixture of marble grit and cement and them leveling it by hand. Back in 1927. And you were so true with your answer! @caterina thanks a lot! Little secret to be revealed on day 14!
A beautifully planned room. I especially love the tile flooring! Growing up, our living room was the same as family room so not fancy and off limits...our gathering place. It was the sofa to watch TV, enjoy the fireplace, listen to records, look out the picture window of the world and play the piano. And I loved that the mail slot dropped letters on the floor. :)
@gardenfolk Thank you (and apologies for the late reply). Actually, it grew up with time, buying one piece of furniture and then another, changing sofas, shelves, artworks... It’s nice when your home follows your changes. @jyokota :)
