Approaching Storm

Day 63 of 365Project: Approaching Storm

For this post, I am using a photo that I took this afternoon with my husband's Smartphone.

2015 March 4: We all knew that a winter storm was approaching our area, resulting in an advisory of an ice storm late tonight; however, at 3:00 this afternoon the temperature was a balmy 77 degrees (F) with a warm, humid, slight breeze blowing. We decided to go for our regular 3-mile, 1-hour walk through our neighborhood.

About halfway through our walk, we noticed very dark clouds blowing in from the west. The wind picked up and developed a noticeable chill to it. We began walking a bit faster, but still weren't very concerned.

About 3/4 of the way back home, we rounded the corner at the bottom of the hill. Feeling some very strong, cold wind gusts, we looked up and saw what appeared to be a thickly solid sheet of sleet ... swiftly heading straight for us! The quickly-approaching storm was between us and home, so all we could do was trudge into it and hope for the best.

As we turned onto the main road leading to our home, the bitterly cold sleet stung against our faces. I was completely drenched, making my jeans a lot heavier and making it even harder to jog up the hill.

We must have looked a rather pitiful sight, as the driver of the first car going our way stopped to offer us a ride home. By that time, however, we were across the street from our own yard; we cheerfully waved him on and waited to cross the street and mercifully arrive home. People driving by realized that we needed to cross; traffic came to a standstill as everyone stopped to let us cross (That has certainly never happened before!).

When we got inside, we found that during our 1-hour walk the outdoor temperature had dropped 12 degrees and was still plummeting. I thanked the Lord for our warm, dry, comfortable home!

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!! What a story and what a storm!!! Glad you made it home safely but it sure sounds awful!!! Those skies looke like they had tornados in it, not sleet!! Dang!!! Huge Fav!!!
