New Garden Bed

Day 137 of 365: New Garden Bed

2015 May 17: A few years ago we began the daunting task of turning our 60-foot by 80-foot garden space into a collection of raised bed gardens and wicking beds …a task made even more challenging by the sloping, rocky clay soil in our yard. Since we already have several 4-foot x 4-foot garden beds, we decided to make a larger (4-foot x 21-foot) garden bed in which we could plant space-intensive plants such as squash.

After quite a bit of hard work over several days, near sunset yesterday evening we finally finished the garden bed and eagerly began filling it with plants. The sun was setting as we doggedly kept on putting plants in the ground. Rain began softly falling, but we kept on working.

By the time that we finished planting, it was too dark for us to see the entire garden. So as soon as I could today, I rushed out with my camera to see our finished result. I am pleased with it now, but am even more thrilled when I envision it as a lush, flourishing garden bed in a few weeks!
that is terrific. nothing like having a garden and fresh vegetables
