2015 June 3: This is last night's "Strawberry Moon" shining through the clouds and framed by our backyard maple trees. Although it appears for several nights, on the night of June 2 the "Strawberry" moon was at its peak fullness.
Last night's sky was mostly cloudy in my area. A strong cold front was blowing through that brought a good bit of clouds. Our high temperature yesterday was a very pleasant 75 degrees F., while our low was a quite surprising 60 degrees F with a strong cold, stiff north breeze!
Last night we ate a late supper outdoors on our deck -- shivering, but luxuriating in the exquisite cold after several stiflingly hot and humid summer days.
Now, back to the moon: The full moon in June got its name from the Algonquin Indian tribes, who called it "Strawberry Moon" because it occurred near the start of time to pick strawberries. This moon is also called a "Full rose" moon, and also a "Honey" moon because it stays closer to the horizon in June and appears more amber.
Love the strawberry looking colored clouds and the way the photo is framed and the beautiful bright moon shine!! Awesome capture and nice information about the moon! I had never heard of this before! FAV!
