2015 September 13: In early summer each year I take down my bird feeders and replace them with hanging plants ...mostly because suet melts quickly in our hot, humid summers, and -with plants and insects so plentiful - my finicky backyard birds are no longer interested in the seeds that I put out for them.
Today, though, I noticed several migrating or returning birds in our yard: Tufted Titmice and Magnolia Warblers have joined our year-round Carolina Chickadees and Carolina Wrens.
This afternoon after seeing a good many birds in our yard, I got out our bird feeder and hung it in its usual place ...completely filled with seed. Within a few minutes a couple of chickadees and a titmouse had found the feeder and were feasting -- on the opposite side from where I was standing!
I do hope that during the winter they will perch within my view and let me get some good photos!
Love your bird feeder!! I have such trouble with the squirrels liking their food also that I end up mostly feeding the squirrels!! I put food out for them too, peanuts, corn and peanut butter sandwiches, but they like the sunflower seeds best!! I don't start feeding them again until the hummingbirds leave. Looks like they are going to stay a little later than usual as I still have at least a couple dozen out there!! Love your hanging flowers too! FAV!
