Day 328 of 365: Downy Woodpecker

2015 November 24: Several days ago while the weather was still warm(ish), I hung a suet feeder from our deck ...only a few feet away from the kitchen window where I do most of my bird observations when the weather is too cold to go outdoors. I then cut some branches off our camellias and placed them in a nearby pot so the birds would feel more sheltered. Then I watched, hoping that the birds would find this new food source quickly.

Today I was very happy to see this awesome Downy woodpecker enjoying a nice meal!

Great natural colour and excellent focus of the bird! It looks as if it is quite close to the ground being next to the pot but the bird doesn't appear worried! fav
