2016.04.04 Monday: Our largest Japanese maple has awakened from it winter dormancy ...filling its corner of the yard with gorgeous vivid red leaves that make a beautiful contrast to its backdrop of greenery and brilliant white Bradford pear blooms.
We are a few weeks behind you with the leaves coming out on the trees. Seems like spring is on hold for us now here in western Pa. It's going to snow this weekend.
I have a small Jap that is finally growing again after the deer ate the leaves off last year. It is only about 3 feet tall but one day, I hope it will look like this! We have it closed off with a hog wire fence so the deer can't get to it..I hope.
@merawl I hope that your Japanese maple is safe now; they are such beautiful plants! In my pic, we almost lost the tiny one to the left of the big Jap maple ...a couple of years ago a deer ate the small one down to the ground! It came back, though, and we look forward to seeing it big some day. The large one is almost 40 years old.
