2017 Tinsel Trail

2016.12.17 Saturday: Each year (beginning the day after Thanksgiving and lasting until January) downtown Huntsville hosts a free-admittance Tinsel Trail of Christmas trees at Big Spring Park. This year (the event's 6th year) the largest part of the park is closed for rather extensive renovations, but they still managed to find enough space for 250 trees in the smaller part of the park.

Each tree is sponsored and decorated by a business, group, organization, family, or individual; trees cost between $250 and $800 to sponsor. People decorate the trees for many different reasons: some people decorate a "memory" tree to honor a lost loved one; businesses and organizations decorate as advertising or public relations; churches decorate with Scriptures; others just decorate with something that they enjoy. It is nice to see the variety.

This year there was also a large creche displayed on the hill overlooking the Tinsel Trail ...I very much enjoyed seeing it!

The weather today was warm but rainy, but there was still a nice crowd. I managed to get this photo of an overview while there was a lull in the activity.
Interesting composition
