Excitement

January 30, 2019, Wednesday: We certainly had some excitement around midnight: Matthew and I were both still up working on some projects when we heard sirens nearby. They kept getting louder and louder, so Matthew looked out the window to see which of our neighbors must have had some trouble ...only to find that there were over a dozen police cars in our yard -- with lights flashing and sirens blaring!

The rest of our family quickly got up; Matthew and Michael went outside and talked with a policeman. They found that a high-speed chase of a stolen car (exceeding 100 mph!) had begun in a nearby city and ended in our yard when the thieves drove through our yard and through our neighbor's fence. The policeman assured us that both of the car thieves had been handcuffed; they (and their dog -- The puppy was fine!) were in custody.

Even though it was terribly late, we called our neighbor; he immediately went out to see that a good bit of his fence was now wrapped around the stolen car. Other neighbors came over to make sure we were all OK -- None of us ever imagined anything like this happening out in our peaceful little county!

Matthew and I took pics on my camera and our phones while all of this was happening. This is a collage of the pics and commentary that Matthew posted on snapchat to document this completely-foreign-to-us experience.
When I was a kid I once heard the sirens of a firetruck. My friend and I wished they would come by were we were sitting so we could see it. Well they did and stopped at my house. My grandmother turned on gas and left on so when my mom started it a little later boom. My mother lost her eyebrows and we changed to electricity. And I never wished for a firetruck or an emergency vehicle to drive by. This is one of many memories your story triggered. Glad you are all safe. Teens joy riding happens every where. If everyone is safe you had a good result.

That's the sort of excitement that you can do without. Glad that you're all safe :)

It sounds very exciting - but I think I prefer safe and boring.

Well, that was exciting! It reminds me of the time last year when I woke up around 5 AM to see firemen all around the house across the street and smoke coming out their windows! They had forgotten to open the flu in their wood stove and filled the house with smoke- thankfully no fire though. Glad it all ended well (for you at least!). I wonder what happened to the poor puppy.
