I went to the Verulamium Museum and adjoining park at St. Albans today. The area is the site of an ancient Roman settlement and some wonderful floor mosaics have been excavated there, including this one of a shell. It was made about 150AD - so nearly 2 thousand years ago! It's by far and away my favourite, although it's the simplest in design. I don't know whether it's the lighting on it, how it's displayed, or the work itself but I get an unbelievably good buzz from it. Strictly speaking, this is a photo of someone else's artwork but I've chosen it for today's main album shot because it means so very much to me.
