A bit more interesting than a shot of a toasted teacake

I think it must have been built by a wild bee but what make I don't know. (Anita - @anitahoyle - says it may be a wasps' nest. Thank you for the warning, Anita ) It's in our apple tree and it's about the same size as a large cooking apple.
It's been one of those days today when you just want to stay in in the warm. I nearly posted a shot of a toasted teacake and a cuppa because that was the day's excitement! Then I went out into the garden, though, and found this - much to my delight . It intrigued me, I've never seen anything like it outside a man-made beehive before. I was also quite happy not to have to post the teacake shot :-)
Bees are such clever creatures. It is an amazing structure nd a good capture.

I agree, it's better to post something interesting. This is intriguing. Do you think it could be the beginnings of a wasp nest? It looks as if it might be made of paper. Hope to see what hatches out some time unless it's too cold now.

@anitahoyle Thank you, Anita. I appreciate the warning. It will probably have to go, just in case.

Amazing! Man, or woman, would never be able to make something like this with just stuff that can be found in the wild. Brilliant! Although, you know me, I wouldn't have been adverse to a shot of the teacake ;)

What an interesting find! But I'll go for the teacake, thanks!

Fascinating. But I thought that wasp nests usually had a covering of chewed wood. Maybe this is work in progress?

@bigsusan55 Apparently some types of wasp just construct these single layer combs.
