Lester and I went to see a man about a shed today, not far from the village of West Wycombe. The Dashwood (an old, local, aristocratic family) home is there, along with their Hellfire Caves, and (in view) the family mausoleum with St.Lawrence's church behind it (with the golden ball on the spire). They look like one building from most angles.
The mausoleum's not open to the public but you can go up and peer through its iron gate. It's one of the creepiest places I've ever visited. I'm not fit enough to tackle the steep climb to get to it at the moment, so here's a long distance view to be going on with.

This is a nice photo, I bet they do not make a ice skate field in front of the house as they did in my place, would be fun seeing people ice skating there
Beautiful winter scene.
I used to love seeing that shiny golden ball every work day for about 3 years. Never went up for a closer look. I did go down the caves though.
Thats a lovely view - I love driving down that road from High Wycombe to the roundabout at W.Wycombe where you can see this! It is a lovely view. Unfortunately I would never be able to walk that far to see the mausoleum so have to be content with the view from the road. I have been to the Hellfire caves tho'. Thats a fun place to be.
Nice shot.
@netkonnexion Thank you.
Mobility problems are frustrating at times. It *is* a great view, though, and the mausoleum retains its rather eerie quality whatever the weather.
love the description of the house on the hill, bet there is a lot of history there
