Thank you very much to everyone for taking the time to look at my shots and for the lovely comments. They are always very much appreciated and so is your kindness.

I went to the local stretch of canal this afternoon where I spent some time looking at and taking shots of a coot family* which has built a nest on the canal (our stretch is un-navigable and is very silted up - the birds who swim on it can also stand upright in it without getting their bodies wet, even the smallest ones- in places).
I finished off by having a go at one of these silky water shots, just for the fun of trying, really.
[Edit. I took about 20. A few bombed completely. This one was the best of the 4 I hung onto.]
(Cropped a bit, sharpened a bit)

This is the little weir at the end of the canal. The water drains down from underground springs in the Chiltern hills.

*I thought it would be fun to do a 3/4 episode mini-serial of coot shots. Episode 1 is here : http://365project.org/dulciknit/on-the-day-extr/2012-05-01

Very effective. How do you do it? Narrow aperture and long exposure?
