This is the Morris Mini Cooper S in which British rally driver, Paddy Hopkirk, won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally.
Lester needed to return a melodeon to its owner so we used it as an excuse for a day out (as we sometimes do) and ended up at the Heritage Motor Centre motor museum at Gaydon*. We had a great time there - so many historic cars to see! (And photos to take)
I took this shot and posted it because these rally cars reminded me of the times in my teens and early twenties when I did some Time Control marshalling for small, local club level car rallies. It was great fun staying out all night in out-of-the-way parts of Kent - not alone, I hasten to add. The events were held in the late Autumn and Winter, so it was rather cold but plenty of layers of clothes and the sense of adventure minimalised the discomfort.
Happy memories indeed.
Critique welcome. Veteran 365er, 2011 vintage. Only posting occasionally and irregularly now.
I'm an abstract photography enthusiast but not exclusively so.
