This isn't the same globe artichoke head as the one previously pictured**; it's one I'd bought some days earlier.
I'd bought it to photograph, with an abstract in mind, but had not been able to make the idea work. I didn't have the heart to throw it out, so left it to one side on the kitchen counter.
Imagine my surprise when I went into the kitchen a couple of mornings later and saw this!
It hadn't been in water, so I guess an artcihoke's core, or whatever it's called, must contain sufficient water and nutrients to allow the flower to continue developing.
Another of nature's wonders and a rather beautiful one, I think.
Critique welcome. Veteran 365er, 2011 vintage. Only posting occasionally and irregularly now.
I'm an abstract photography enthusiast but not exclusively so.

I agree with Louise, the inside makes me think of an elegant anemone undulating in the sea. The outer leaves make a decorative framing, with an interesting range of colours.
