I have a wander round the garden most days to see what there is to see. Today I saw this hover fly resting on a clematis leaf. Hover flies are welcome visitors to the garden, they act as pollinators and their larvae feed on aphids and thrips. They're coloured like this to mimic bees and wasps in order to deter predators.
