On this day in 1940 began the "Blitz" (Blitz, the German word for "lightning", was applied by the British press to the tempest of heavy and frequent bombing raids carried out over Britain in World War II).
A service at St Paul's marked the 70th anniversary of the start of the raids. Those who attended included people who worked as firefighters, nurses, ambulance workers, as well as those who were children at the time, Battle of Britain pilots and other military personnel.
After the service the veterans and their representatives marched past the cathedral to the applause of London 2010.
Well done you for being there it does mean so much to the people to see support for the armed services.Alot of my family have been and are in the armed services xxx
