Cape Town: a city bound by mountains, with a flat area in between.
Joe - this picture's for you. Mountains are central to Cape Town. The city was originally developed around the Table Mountain range. (This pic is taken from Signal Hill, at the very end of the Table Mountain range.) With expansion, the city has now been contained by the next mountain range - the Drakenstein, which you see in the distance. The area between the two ranges is called "The Cape Flats". To orientate people who are familiar with Cape Town, the Waterfront is to my left, and across my right shoulder is the famous flat top of Table Mountain.

What a gorgeous view and on such a beautiful day! I had no preconceived idea of what Cape Town looked like, so this is wonderful to see it laid out like that!
Thank you for the photo of Cape Town, I didn't know it was such a big sprawling city. When I looked at the thumbnail, I thought it was Los Angeles, but it did not look right for California. I think it was because of the mountains in the background. Great photo!
