Cape Town Stadium during the semi-final of the World Cup
This picture was taken as the Dutch team scored their first goal against Uruguay. We were on Signal Hill, and heard the rising roar from the crowd as the goal was scored.
Stadium architecture and construction is very interesting. I understand that one of the biggest structural challenges is that the design has to accommodate the impact of everyone jumping up at the same moment when a goal is scored!
This is one of the stadia that was built for the World Cup. It's beautiful, and a great place to watch a game. There is concern, however, about how we are going to attract enough big events to make it financially viable in the long term.
But that's another day's issue. Tonight it's a place of glory for Netherlands who won the match 3-2 and will play in the final of the 2010 World Cup on Sunday.

Congratulation to the winners. Tomorrow, I will have to cheer for Germany against Spain and I would love to have a final between the Netherlands and Germany. I fear at that time we will be on opposite sides. Your photo is marvelous, showing the center of attention.
This stadium would have been the focal point for much of the world at the time. Great photo. I hadn't thought of the connection between the Dutch and SA.
