It's a cold, rainy day in Cape Town, and Louise's "Apple Dapple Cake" http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/1130 looks like the right sort of comfort food. I sat in front of the fire peeling the (organic) Granny Smith apples while we switched the TV channels between Currie Cup Rugby and Tour de France. I love living in an international world!
Originally started the project to improve my photography skills. Over a 2500 photos later it's become a personal diary. I post pictures that mark my...
Awesome mood that you've captured here, Eleanor. I can almost smell the pie baking. I too am on my way over with 50 of my nearest and dearest friends. =)
what a lovely cosy picture. it's strange to think of winter weather when it is high summer here - and unusually for UK we are enjoying several weeks of very hot, sunny weather. Thank you for pointing me in the direction of Louise's apple cake - I'm definitely going to try it - I have to take a cake to a school function next week, so that could be the moment! I'll probably be using Bramleys too!
It doesn't get any more cozy - a fireplace and apple cake. If it is really cold you might have to add hot chocolate to it. This is a wonderful fall/winter photo. Thank god, we are no longer in the 90ies (35 Celsius) so I can actually enjoy looking at it. Wishing your family a happy coffee hour.
@Elizabeth Cotton ... you'd better come round soon because this cake is not going to last long. It's spectacularly "more-ish" and an embarrassing amount has already been eaten. @Louise ... yes, this recipe is a winner. Thank you so much for sharing.
Yea please, a piece of cake for me too:) Nothing is better in a rainy day that a fire. And apple pie. We are just watching Uruguay-Germany on tv and we can see the the pouring rain in the stadium. But lovely photo, I like.
I watched it too. I was worried, because some of the best players were out with the flu or injuries. But they did it again! I have to admit I felt sorry for the captain of the Uruguay team at the very end, but happy for the Germans that they didn't have to play overtime. One more game tomorrow and then I can stop. I only watch this much sports during the World cup and for Wimbledon and the US-Open in tennis. It's exhausting!
Well, Missy, I couldn't be more delighted! Years ago I was given this recipe after having the cake at a "Newcomer's Luncheon" in Southern California...brought it to Nova Scotia where it's making the rounds and now it's going world wide! That's just awesome! From your note on the comment, it sounds as though you were pleased with the results...
FYI, it's my friend, Gill, (from S Africa) who's the wonderful caterer in town and who's asked me to make the cake...so it's a little like "full-circle" with you and your photo here today! And BTW, that bowl of apples couldn't have been photographed in any lovelier setting! Of course I have to make it a Fave!
What a nice photo this is...found it via Louise mentioned her cake recipe and saying you had made it...I now have it copied...and hope to make it one day soon! Bet is was yummy!
