Mr Moosa farms flowers on a plot he rents from the City Council behind 'Peddlers on the Bend' in the Constantia Green Belt. Throughout the year customers park next to the stables, walk past the chickens, and pop into the wooden hut to see what's for sale. There are a variety of flowers from the market, but the real deal are Mr Moosa's summer dahlias and spring poppies.
He's been farming all his life. He started on the family plot in Strawberry Lane, but they lost the land during the '60s apartheid evictions. The land he uses today is part of the Green Belt which may not be built on and is ideal for market gardening. It's a pretty stretch, and the fertile land produces wonderful flowers under the care and attention of Mr Moosa.
A bunch of a dozen freshly picked dahlias costs R15.00. (Around GP1.50 or USD2). At that price, the is no reason not to have fresh flowers in your home or office throughout the season.

@becky It's behind the restaurant "Peddlars on the Bend" off Spaanschemat River Road. You turn between Peddlars and the Constantia Waldorf School, past the restaurant parking on your right, and then past the riding school's training field. You can see the flower farm on your right, and park at the end of the riding ring and walk down to the wooden 'wendy house' that is used as a shop. Or just stroll out to the men who are working the farm - they are thrilled to have their customers come and visit them.
What a lovely story. I wish him every success. I'm not wild about dahlias, but I love the way they smell. Yes, I know they're not officially 'scented' flowers, but that doesn't change the fact that they have a very characteristic smell.
