Esme's "secret missions" in the basement (seriously, I have no idea what she does down there) result in very dirty dusty paws, and she does not enjoy having them washed off. . .Here she is afterwards, really wishing I'd leave her the hell alone.
I remember my children giving me looks that had the same message..."Leave me alone!" or the famous, "Dad, get away!"Sometimes (but not always) it was even because I had to help them clean their paws.
