Crucifix by elza

Crucifix

Today was the last day of our summer vacation in Gozo. After the morning Mass and breakfast, my wife and I decided to spend the day visiting Rabat Victoria instead of the usual swim. We stopped by Il-Haġar museum which is hosting an art exhibition by Willie Apap (1918-1970) and of course the local pastizzi (like cheesecakes) and coffee at the Cafè Jubilee.

My choice for 365 from today's photos is this lovely crucifix at the church which is just across the road from our house in Gozo, since today happens to be the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

I like this crucifix as it bears many of the features (albeit cleaned and artistically depicted) described by Dr Pierre Barbet in his book "A Doctor at Calvary: The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ As Described by a Surgeon".

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI wrote, “Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event”. The Holy Cross suggests that God wants to enter into a relationship of love with everyone. This is offered in His Son, Jesus, lifted up on the Cross.

So very life-like.
