Scalette to Monte Berico by elza

Scalette to Monte Berico

This is one of the routes climbing to the sanctuary of St. Mary of Monte Berico (built in the early 15th century). The path, called the "Scalette", is a series of stairs with 192 steps. This was the only point of access from the city to the sanctuary before the building of the arcades in the mid-18th century.
Did people climb on their knees saying prayers all the way up?
