At last we have finally arrived in South America. Despite worries about luggage handlers in Madrid and whether our luggage would turn up at Lima, it did, although I am not sure if the other passengers appreciated my ‘I’ve got pants and a tripod’ song and dance when my case eventually appeared. The day was a very long with my alarm set for 3.55am and with a 12-hour flight from Madrid we eventually arrived at the hotel at about 7.30 local time... as Lima is 6 hours behind the UK it was actually 1.30am and then after we went out for a meal we didn’t get to bed until 11pm which is 5am in the UK.
This is a photo of the amazing clouds over the Amazon region of Peru and shows the storm clouds rising about the other clouds. We experienced quite a bit of turbulence at this point. We are now in Peru - hooray!
