27th September 2015

Sadly today is our last full day in Cusco as we leave for Puno and Lake Titicaca tomorrow. I have been feeling rather rough today - I’m not sure why, so we took it quite gently and did not do quite as much sight-seeing as we maybe would have done if I was on top form. After getting another bit of laundry done (washed, dried and folded for only £1.80!) we headed back to my favorite square San Blas plaza. I wanted to buy a few things for the family and Colin was more than happy to sit on a bench in the shade and watch the world go by - he is very patient.

After the shopping spree we headed back down the hill which is where I took todays photo. It really demonstrates the fact that Cusco is on a little plateau right in the heart of the Andes, surrounded by mountains. We also visited Santo Domingo church to see some well preserved Inca ruins and then returned for a bit of a rest and to sort out our cases for the journey tomorrow.

This evening it was the total eclipse of the moon, followed by a blood moon. It was amazing to see at about 9.30pm local time. I did not feel up to digging out my tripod from my case so the only pics I managed were using ISO10,000 and were handheld. However the best part was being with crowds of people in Plaza Armas all looking up into the sky to observe this very rare event.

More FaceBook pics from the day and a couple of rather rubbish blood moon shots here -

@tristansmum There does seem to be a mass of photos good and bad about the eclipse - was it visible in Canada? My Mum had to set her alarm for 2.45am to see it. Thank goodness it happened at 9.30 in Cusco.
