5th January 2016

There has been a lot of rain here in Penzance as we arrived as Storm Frank departed and the weather system seems to have stayed behind.

We braved a walk for fresh air to Newlyn and back and the rain started as we reached the harbour. It's still refreshing to be by the sea though. I took a few photos of Newlyn harbour (with the rain cover on!) but I liked this one of Penzance promenade.

Like that, spose Sponge Bob is used to the wet!!

I love the comp, the wetness, and just the atmosphere of this, fav for me. I have a love/hate relationship with rain covers--they are such a nuisance to use, but preferable to having one's camera destroyed.

@padlock Yes - and it was very wet most days. At least its nicer being wet in Cornwall than in Teddington! @tristansmum I'm with you there. I have a lightweight 'Optech' rain cover. Technically they are disposable but I manage to make mine last for months. They make photography so difficult but considering my problems with water and the camera in 2013 probably worth the effort (basically Canon 5D Mk3's are NOT weather sealed despite the marketing material!!). Do you have snow or rain in Toronto at the moment?

@tristansmum use a plastic bag, Emma's has been compared to something else!!

@emmadurnford I use the Optech sleeves too, and I manage to make them last for a while, but not as long as you do, Emma. The bit which fits over the viewfinder and is held in place by the detachable eyepiece tends to get frayed, I find, and after a while you can't get a good seal. I've thought of covering the frayed hole with some waterproof tape (if there is such a thing) and making a new hole close by, but haven't tried it. It's been raining here today, and I was out taking pictures with the sleeve this morning. My Pentax K 3 Mark 2 is supposed to be weather sealed, but I've been advised that it's still a good idea to use the sleeve unless the rain or snow is very light. So I do. We are supposed to get some snow tonight, possibly tomorrow, and definitely on Tuesday, and I'm looking forward to getting some snow pics at last--after all, this is Canada!

@kandkids Thank you, it looks a little darker than it was but I think it is more effective. @tristansmum I manage to make mine last some time as well even though they are supposed to be disposable! I find the eye piece holes get a bit ragged. I either use a little piece of gaffer tape (thick silver tape) or sellotape and then recut the hole with a scalpel although I think you could use scissors. It strengthens the hole as well. Any sign of snow yet? It's getting cold here finally… off to look at your page to see if I can find the snow! :-)
