I have been looking forward to our visit to London Zoo today as we have been given advance entry to the new Land of Lions exhibit which officially opens to the public next weekend. The exhibit is impressive although the Asian lions are still getting used to their new enclosure and so are a little nervy. There are only 500 Asian lions in the wild now and London Zoo plays a critical role in preserving and increasing the population and gene pool and hopefully in the future it may be possible to release some of the captive bred lions.

I did take a lot of photos but my personal favorite from the day was this alligator in the reptile house - one of the older buildings that looks a bit overdue for a refurbishment. He really seems to be smiling in his sleep!
