Our last day in Salamanca and it has been a wonderful stay. The city really has lived up to its reputation as the most beautiful in Spain,

Over the days we are gradually slipping into Spanish days of up later, out for 6 hours sightseeing and then a little siesta before going out for a little more sightseeing and then dinner later!

Today I was determined to go up the cathedral tower and to take a closer look at the ‘Casa de Conches’ - the house of shells. It was sunny but actually quite chilly today. We headed straight to the tower and purchased our tickets. We started the climb and got to the first level looking out over the roofs. Then more steps and suddenly we inside the new cathedral but right at the top looking down on where we had been looking up a couple of days ago. It was really quite frightening as the parapet was quite low and I’m not good with heights.

We managed another couple of levels up before I wimped out and decided I couldn’t do the next three levels to the top. To be honest I’m not sure how much better the view would be and we were actually up the building most people want to see in photos!

Back down many stairs and a cafe con leche to recover as well as 'wedding watching' a wedding with a bride in a stunning dress. We wondered more of the city and lunched in TA’s top listed Spanish restaurant - quite posh but horror of horrors - another ‘León morcilla’ experience. Oh dear, we managed a little but had to accept defeat.

We headed back to our hotel to recover passing the university grand entrance where you have to find the tiny carved frog for good luck. Unfortunately a tour guide used a laser pen to point the general area and without thinking I shouted “that’s cheating” making everyone laugh! I did spot it eventually.

A great final meal at our favourite restaurant and then back to the hotel.
