Sadly we had to pack up this morning to head back home. It’s been a lovely break even if it rained most days. Christmas and New Year is definitely over now. We finally left at about 11.00 and it was grey and drizzly. I had the first stretch and managed nearly three hours all the way to our late lunch spot at Cartgate Services - a small independent place which - despite it being about 2.30 - a full cooked breakfast and as the photo records - a massive spotted dick dessert with double jugs of custard.
About an hour later we set off again. The journey should have been shorter for the second half and Colin took over but unfortunately there had been a bad accident on the M3 and we were caught up in an hour tailback… in drizzle.
We finally made it home, unpacked but it’s all rather quiet now.
