27th January 2023

What a surprise - well not really. After the guarded comment from Waterstones in Kingston about my cards, I received an email from one of the Managers telling me that they no longer wish to stock my cards due to space issues. Despite not being surprised, I am disappointed and then I got cross. I am going to reply but need to do so with a bit of time to think about it. I know what I’ll be doing this weekend. I think the email just added to me feeling rather down today. I walked across the bridge to pick up some odds and ends for our trip to Portugal to try and cheer myself up and took a photo of Christ Church on Station Road. Well, it was a church util it was damaged in a storm and sold off by the diocese that owns it to a private developer. They have done an amazing job and the photos of the apartment look stunning which I’d expect at a starting price of £11.7 million each. I also popped into the station to buy our rail tickets for next Monday as we are travelling from Gatwick this time.

In the evening - despite not really feeling in the mood - we got ready to go out for a meal with Colin’s friend John and wife at a local favourite restaurant - Brouge. We have been here many times and it has never let us down. It was pretty nippy as we caught the bus but we got a table next to a radiator.

The main reason for Colin treating John and Glenys to dinner was the fact that John has been working hard over the past year painting (in oils) a portrait of Colin from photos he took. It was absolutely amazing, a stunning preterit - John is so talented and it is an honour for Colin to have this painting that can pass down to Karen and Chris - hopefully in a very long time.

By the end of the evening and after an excellent meal of a grilled goats cheese with pomegranate seeds and Balsamic dressing, followed by mussels in a cream and wine sauce with bread and chips, I was feeling better than I was earlier in the day.
