12th February 2023

It’s the last full day of our holiday today and despite a somewhat frosty atmosphere, I suggested that we drive along the coast towards the traditional Algarve side for a look. I drove the outbound journey to the little town of Carvoeiro which had wanted to see for a while. We found the parking easily and walked along the board walk above the cliffs into the town. The views were lovely and it is pretty but as with a number of places, as we are off season there were very limited (and expensive) places to eat. We had a walk around but then headed back to the car and into Portimâo where we had enjoyed fish cooked on outside BBQs many years ago.

Apparently it really was a long time ago as these fishermen’s BBQs have long since been removed due to health and hygiene concerns and now they are related to an inside market which is closed on Sundays! Again it was a challenge finding anywhere to eat but we came up trumps with a friendly place with a good value set menu. Afterwards it was a walk on the magnificent beach - acres of golden sand but strong waves crashing in.

Then it was back to the car and a long drive back as we were avoiding the toll roads!

We topped up the petrol tank on the way home and started packing as we need to be out of our apartment by 10.00am tomorrow and so I wanted to have less to do in the morning. We were still quite full from lunch but as we had bought stuff from Pingo Doce that we did not want to waste, it was pasta and pesto with fried chorizo with salad - not bad for a knock-up meal.
Beautiful spot.
