A big day today. After the passing of Pingado it has felt very quiet in the dining room and his ‘house’ very empty. I wanted another male Syrian hamster, preferably with long hair but there doesn’t seem to be many available at the moment. However in the morning I remembered that my friend used to work at ‘Pets at Home’ a a veterinary nurse so I contacted the Feltham branch. I spoke to a friendly man who checked stock and confirmed that he had at least two long haired male Syrians in so we decided to head off to Feltham in the afternoon.
Feltham - not the most up market of areas but the shop was very clean and the staff very knowledgable about the stock. We had to wait a while to b seen as I wanted to talk to the person I had spoken to on the phone. He showed me the long haired grey which reminded me of some of my past hamsters so he got a cage out from the back on the shop with some males that had just come out of quarantine but had not gone onto the shop floor. We spotted the little long-haired golden banded hamster who seemed very alert and even let me stroke him. Readers - he came home with us!
He’s lovely boy and I even managed to hold him briefly and he is so much lighter than Pingado. He seems to love his cage and explored a lot and found his food bowl. After lots of digging he finally discovered his lovely new house that Colin made a few weeks ago… we’ve not seen him since!!
