6th July 2023

After our city break in York we packed up the car this morning before heading off to Hester and Brian’s house via another battlefield and then stopping at Skipton.

The battlefield was interesting although like last time - it was just a field although there was a memorial and information placard to give an idea of what happened where. The sky was amazing and it was sunny, which for us is unusual when we are away in the UK for a break!

We continued on via a somewhat circuitous route thanks to the SatNav to Skipton. It was as nice as we had remembered from our stay for Hester and Brian’s wedding back in 2016. However the road was being resurfaced and there was a protest outside of the library to do with a drag queen reading storybooks to children - all rather an overreaction I think.

We found a lovely little cafe down an alleyway off the High Street and enjoyed pork and stuffing baps and a shared lemon meringue roulade to finish up with. Then it was onwards (rather more direct route this time) to see Hester and Brian in Horton in Ribblesdale.
