Happy Birthday to me! Very shockingly I am now closer to 60 than 50.
The day started very well with a large pile of presents and cards which Colin had managed to transport all the way from home in his case (at least he’ll now have space to fit his new mini paella dishes).
I did very well with new earrings (in the colour I have been looking for) from Mum, socks, scarves, chocolate, vouchers, books and a mysterious ‘IOU’ voucher from Colin for a present that is suspiciously ‘too big’ to bring.
After a leisurely breakfast we headed off to the Metro to travel to the coast for some sea air. It was very sunny but with stiff breeze. We walked along the beach and found a smart restaurant with a good value ‘Menu del Dia’. I started with white shrimps in batter and Colin had a dish with smoked eel - nicer than it sounds. Next we shared a seafood paella - it had to be done. Although I had some reservations that the pan was quote small and the paella not that thick. It was very good and by the time we had had a dessert (chocolate bombe for me and fruit salad for Colin), we were pretty stuffed. After lunch I had made the rash promise that I would go for a paddle, I stuck to my word. There were virtually no waves but the temperature was freezing - it was a short paddle!
Once last stop for an ice cream with the world longest queue… I went for salted cameral and strawberries and Colin went for coconut and strawberry.
Then it was back on the Metro although we had a little difficulty getting the right ticket - I find the best way is to be honest - we had a ticket, but not the right one. Luckily there was a member of staff on the station platform and he just let us through (no charge). The journey back was easy and despite warnings from Rafaello yesterday, we were not mugged or pick-pocketed!!
We were still pretty full from my birthday 3-course paella lunch so we ate in with pate and a cheeseboard.
