This morning I had to do some housework and put the washing on! It was easier than some machines to work out without English instructions.
Afterwards it was out into the heat, heading for a different market this time. I was quite disappointed at the Central Market but this was just as disappointing and surprisingly even quieter - practically deserted in fact with just one or two food stalls open but a very big Spar.
After this disappointment we caught the tram up towards the Museum of Terror which Colin wanted to visit which gave me a couple of hours or so to wander the Jewish quarter with the camera. It was a really good morning as I wandered the area, I headed for a post office to buy some stamps but despite queuing with a ticket and enjoying meeting a very friendly dog in the building, apparently they did not have any stamps for the U.K!
Back out on my wander, around the back of the museum and then I found a very good coffee shop to stop with an iced latte and a peanut cookie - delicious. I also found a more helpful post office where the woman was very happy to sell me some stamps for postcards and my stamp book. Colin then called me and using our special travel passes it was no problem to catch the metro back to meet up for lunch before heading out again.
This time we took a different combination of metro to get to Margaret bridge and island (first attempting to book a popular restaurant in Keleti which didn't happen). Visiting the island had been on my revisit list and I since discovered mention of a musical fountain!
The island was like a haven ni the middle of the Danube and covered with trees so much cooler as well. The fountain lived up to its name and seated in chairs around the fountain we enjoyed the hourly music display with the fountains firing up to ten meters high with a sound like gunshots - the best track had to be George Ezra’s’Budapest’ which a lot of us were signing along to!
We walked a little around the island simply enjoying the fact that it was a little cooler and shady than the city, before we caught the green tram number 6 all the way back to our apartment and a much more direct route than coming. We are running out of steam so we had a rest and then managed to get ourselves out to the restaurant downstairs. It had good beer and ‘okayish’ food.
We braved Budapests’ oldest ruin bar afterwards but we only lasted for ten minutes or so as it was very busy and very loud although it was fascinating - we’ll be back to explore in the peace of the day I think.
