13th January 2012

Today I have been indoors for most of the day sorting paperwork and making travel lists etc. so as that is definitely not very interesting as subject matter, here is one of my Olive trees in the last rays of the afternoon sun.

This is one of my two trees which live outside our dining room window. I bought them over ten years ago and they moved with me from my last flat and they have now flourished to over 5 feet high even though they are in pots. They are hardy enough to be left outside despite the cold weather and this year this tree has produced the most amazing crop of twenty three olives - only problem is, I don't like olives! I love the oil but not the olives so I'm hoping the birds may enjoy them. The other tree has not produced any - not sure why.
....and suddenly Emma lives in the Med!! We had two olive trees - they were killed by the frost a couple of years ago! This is a lovely picture to remind us that summer could be out there somewhere!

Lovely soft colors. Maybe you have male and female trees. You need both to produce "fruit" but the male trees do not produce. That applies to other trees, not sure about the olive trees.

I think the flowers have both male and female parts but I'm wondering if its because the non fruiting tree is normally more in the shade. I'll try swapping their positions in the Spring and see what happens.
